Call for Scores by Women Composers
CALL FOR SCORES 2019
Women in Music-Columbus has been a passionate and tireless champion of music by living women composers. Through our biennial Call for Scores, Women in Music-Columbus has, for more than 25 years, sought the best music by today’s women composers and honors it through special performances in Columbus, Ohio, bringing these gifted artists and their music to greater prominence on a local, regional and national scale.
Women in Music-Columbus is issuing a Call for Scores by women composers for possible performance in Spring 2020. Venues include the Sunday concert series on the campuses of Capital University and Otterbein University, and Member Musicales in private homes. Composers must be based in the United States.
This year, we are searching for works that feature the saxophone. Works are to be solo or chamber works up to five performers, which may also include strings, woodwinds, horn, piano, harp, or voice. Works may also include stereo fixed electronics. Pieces are particularly sought for our featured guest ensembles:
• Sax Avenue Quartet: SATB or AATB saxophones
• Black Swamp Sax Quartet: SATB saxophones
• Cosa Nostra Reed Quintet: clarinet/oboe/sax/bass clarinet/bassoon
Shorter works (10 minutes or less) are preferred, although works up to 15 minutes will be considered.
Please submit scores (.pdf) and recordings (.mp3) through New Music Engine at https://www.newmusicengine.org/categories/Women-in-Music-Columbus-Call-for-Scores-2019/index.html. No more than two scores per composer, please. Address any additional questions to Jennifer Merkowitz at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Submissions must be received by November 30, 2019. You will receive an email confirmation of the receipt of your materials.
If your piece is chosen for performance, a complete set of parts will be required within two weeks of notification.
